The New England Unit of The Herb Society of America

Mission Statement: The New England Unit of the Herb Society of America is dedicated to promoting the knowledge, use, and delight of herbs through educational programs, research, and sharing the experience of its members with community.  Our unit has the distinction of being the inaugural unit of HSA, founded in 1935.

Meeting times and locations:  Approximately 7 weekday meetings are held in a variety of locations in and around the New England area. Most of the meetings are in Massachusetts and are scheduled in September, October, November/December, March, April, June, and July. Additionally, we offer several programs each year that include lectures, garden visits and hands-on workshops.

Geographic area served: Members are from Massachusetts, Rhode Island, Connecticut, and New Hampshire.

Special Events held each year: Our annual plant sale is held every May, in conjunction with The Gardener’s Fair hosted by the Massachusetts Horticultural Society, and held on the grounds of Elm Bank in Wellesley, Mass.  We tend to be the largest vendor at this event, and we offer an extensive range of unusual herbs not normally found in local nurseries.

Garden Maintained: Our Teaching Herb Garden is located on the grounds of Elm Bank in Wellesley, Massachusetts, which is the home of Massachusetts Horticultural Society. We welcome many visitors to our garden and offer guided tours, by appointment.

We welcome you to visit our website: www.neuhsa.org

We welcome inquiries for joining our unit.  Membership is open to anyone who has an interest in herbs, including how to grow them, and learning about their uses, history and folklore.
