  of the Pennsylvania Heartland Unit have \nheld a symposium to educate and
  excite the  public about  the uses of \nherbs. This year\, we are  going 
 to have a 35th Anniversary Party at Stokesay Castle with an herbal luncheo
 n. \nOur speakers for the day\, Holly and Osamu Shimizu\,will speak on a v
 ariety of herbal topics.\nThere will be ample opportunity for herbal learn
 ing and tasting throughout the day.\nAfter registering\, we welcome you to
  sample the herbal cookiesthat will be provided by our members.\nTake time
  to browse through the many interesting items available  from our vendors.
 \nThis is a great opportunity to do some early holiday shopping. \nVisit  
 the  education  table  to  learnmore  about  Asian  herbs.  Also\, visit  
 our  demonstration  tables  to  see\, \ntouch and taste a variety of wonde
 rful herbs and herbal products. The celebration centerpieces containing \n
 a variety of herbal items willbe given as door prizes.\nAll registrants wi
 ll receive an herbal sniffer as a favor.\nBe  sure  to  check  out  the  b
 eautiful  baskets  and  interesting  items  on  display  at  the  raffle  
 tables\;  raffle \nproceeds benefit the PHHS scholarship program. \nEnjoy 
 a delicious luncheon served in the unique atmosphere of Stokesay Castle. H

 d learn about the new Asian herbs for cooking and \nhealth.\nFeatured Spea
 kers: Holly and Osamu Shimizu\nHolly  H. Shimizu is  a  nationally  recogn
 ized  horticulturist\,  consultant\,  and  educator.\nWith  a  rich backgr
 ound in all aspects of public gardens\, extensive  experience leading gard
 en tours and workshops\, \nand  a  proven  commitment  to  plant  conserva
 tion  and  sustainability\,  she  has  been  making  plants  and \ngardens
  more accessible and exciting to both professionals and amateurs for over 
 four decades.\nHolly\, was theExecutive Director of the US Botanic Garden 
 2000-2014\, renovated the Conservatory\, completed the \nNational Garden\,
  and created new plant collections and innovative exhibits.\nOsamu Shimizu
  was born in Okayama\, Japan\, where he became interested in plants as a y
 oung boy when \nhe taught himself the art of bonsai. He studied at the Koy
 o School of Landscape Design. He has worked \nfor firms designing parks an
 d gardens in Japan. He went to Europe where he worked in the Kew and Royal
  \nBotanic gardens in England. After he and Holly were married\, they move
 d to the DC area where Osamu \nstarted his landscape business. \nHis garde
 ns have been featured on TV and in many national magazines.\n\n35th Sympos
