Croton flavens is native to the Greater and Lesser Antilles and Venezuela, where it grows in dry, rocky coastal areas. It is a shrub, 3 to 5 feet tall, with golden-brown stems, attractive leaves, and a pleasant aroma. The sap is a clear golden color and is used directly on sores and minor injuries. It is also used on a spoonful of sugar for coughs and colds.
