Description: The aromatic leaves of 'Provencal' are small, gray-green, and arrow shaped. The plant has an overall blue-gray color.

Cultivation: Frequent pruning will increase the number of stems and keep the plant from becoming too woody. Do not prune in the spring until all danger of frost is past.

"Thymus vulgaris 'Provencal' was introduced in the spring of 1988 by Tom DeBaggio. It is a selected strain of T. vulgaris 'Narrow-leaf French.' The DeBaggios selected this strain, which they formerly grew from seed, because of its strong aroma. It has a woody, upright habit becoming somewhat gnarled after several years. Leaves are small and gray and hold throughout the winter. Plants grow to about 12 inches. The flowers are small and light lilac in color." -Gloria McClure, Promising Plants Presentation, 2008
