dedicated untold hours volunteering both in the office and in the garden. Sadly, Pat passed away before learning of this recognition of her contribution of time and talent. Jo, a member and past chair of the Potomac Unit and the first Southeast Delegate,
is recognized for her enthusiastic support of the Fuchs’ Herbal project’s completion and for achieving 501©(3) status for her unit. Carolyn, a member and past chair of the Nashville Unit and past HSA Treasurer and Finance and Operations Chair, is recognized for her careful stewardship of HSA finances and her oversight of HSA’s first formal audit. Certificates of AchievementElaine Livingston Elaine, a member and past chair of the New England Unit, is
recognized both for her contributions to that unit and on the national level during and after the board’s reorganization. Elaine ably served as the first Northeast Delegate for two years before taking on the Membership Chair role. Waneta, a founding member of the Nashville Unit, is recognized for her life-long research and dedication to sharing of her expert knowledge and use of herbs both locally, in her delightful theme gardens, and at conferences and events across the country. Mary, a member since 1983 of the South Texas Unit, is recognized for her dedication to the national organization, serving as the second South Central Delegate, for her energetic support of her unit, and for her extensive teaching on herbs as far away as Argentina! Gertrude B. Foster Award for Excellence in Herbal LiteratureDr. Frederick G. Meyer Frederick, an honorary member of the Potomac Unit, is recognized for his extensive work on Leonhart Fuchs’ De historia stirpium commentarii insignee (Notable commentaries on the history of plants), published in Basel in 1542. The Nancy Putnam Howard Award for Excellence in HorticultureBarbara Williams Barbara, is a member at large from Ohio and her horticultural expertise known from her oversight of HSA publications during her term as Secretary and Communications Chair. Her knowledge of scientific nomenclature has been put into readily available format in the HSA Style Manual. The Helen de Conway Little Medal of HonorSue Trevarrow Sue, a member of the Southern Michigan Unit, has served HSA in many capacities, most notably as the 1988-1990 president of The Herb Society of America at the time when headquarters moved from Massachusetts to Ohio. |
